Scholarship Coordinators Trained on FedEMIS Scholarship Module

NDOE Press — The National Department of Education (NDOE) successfully concluded a four-day training session on the Scholarship Module within the Federated States of Micronesia Education Management Information System (FedEMIS). Held from August 19-22, 2024, the workshop marked the first-ever training of its kind for scholarship coordinators from all four states: Pohnpei, Chuuk, Kosrae, and Yap.

The training aimed to equip state scholarship coordinators with the necessary skills to configure, edit, and add new data elements directly into the FedEMIS system. Participants also learned how to integrate their respective state’s data elements and other relevant information, enabling a more comprehensive and meaningful data capture process.

A key component of the workshop focused on inputting state scholarship data into the FedEMIS and connecting and manipulating that data. Participants learned how to extract data from FedEMIS into Excel for further analysis. Coordinators were introduced to basic Excel functions, including pivot tables and designing Excel sheets into tables—critical tools for efficient data collection and analysis.

The training was a significant step forward in ensuring that our state scholarship coordinators are well-equipped to manage and analyze their scholarship data effectively.  By the end of the workshop, participants were not only able to access FedEMIS and input their data into the scholarship module but also gained valuable skills in data analysis.

The success of the training was evident as scholarship coordinators successfully input their scholarship data into the system by the workshop’s conclusion. Participants expressed enthusiasm for the new skills they acquired and collectively agreed on the need for a follow-up training session next year. This future training will focus on advancing Excel skills, particularly in preparing reports that automatically update data from Excel sheets, with linked charts and tables in Word documents updating automatically as well.

The collaboration between the NDOE and the State Departments of Education underscores the FSM’s commitment to enhancing educational management systems across the nation. The initiative is expected to lead to more streamlined and accurate data management for scholarship programs, ultimately benefiting students across the Federated States of Micronesia.
