Welcome to Project CURRENT
Project CURRENT is a federal funded FSM National Department of Education (NDOE) initiative committed to addressing teacher retention across the nation. This transformative program is designed to prepare teachers through micro credential, implement high leverage practices in their classrooms and to enhance the capacity of those currently serving in administrative roles to support high-quality education services in their schools.
At its core, Project CURRENT seeks to embrace the ‘current’ in education by driving meaningful change that supports teachers in making a lasting impact on their students and communities. By focusing on the recruitment and retention of skilled educators, particularly those working with disabilities and early childhood education (ECE) students through grade 5, this initiative aims to create a sustainable and high-quality teaching workforce across all four states of FSM.
Project CURRENT is committed to investigating the root causes of teacher attrition in FSM and implementing solutions to attract and retain educators equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the diverse needs of students. By prioritizing teacher retention, the program aims to foster a stable and skilled workforce capable of delivering exceptional educational experiences for all learners.
The Project CURRENT Coordinator plays a vital role in advancing quality education across the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). As the lead organizer and point of contact for Project CURRENT, the Coordinator works closely with teachers, school leaders, state and national education offices, and community partners to strengthen teacher support systems and improve long-term retention.
At the heart of this role is a commitment to empowering educators—especially those serving children with disabilities and students in early childhood education (ECE) through Grade 5. The Coordinator helps design, implement, and monitor training, mentorship, and professional development initiatives that equip teachers with the tools and confidence they need to succeed in the classroom.
The Coordinator also supports the development and rollout of the Teacher Retention Plan across all four states of FSM. By listening to teachers’ needs and collaborating with education leaders, the Coordinator helps create supportive working environments where educators feel valued, encouraged, and motivated to continue serving their communities.
Through strong leadership, collaboration, and advocacy, the Project CURRENT Coordinator works to:
-
Build meaningful partnerships with schools, educators, and stakeholders
-
Support mentorship programs for new and early-career teachers
-
Promote ongoing professional growth and capacity building
-
Strengthen systems that improve teacher satisfaction and retention
-
Contribute to improved learning outcomes for students across FSM
Project CURRENT represents FSM’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its education system by investing in its most valuable resource – teachers. By empowering educators, fostering professional growth, and creating supportive environments, this initiative aims to ensure high-quality instruction for all students. Together, we can transform education in FSM and build a stronger, more equitable future for our communities.
